Mike from Project Archangel sets course on the path of getting prepped for a special forces selection & assessment by obtaining the intel about what can you expect in the process. You will encounter many challenges, but everything comes down to you being able to meet the standard. The typical SF assessment standard will be divided into three elements: teachability, durability, and suitability.
Part 1 – Information gathering and mental preparation
What is the goal of a selection process, what will be evaluated, what kind of information do I need to get in order to be able to best prepare myself and where do I get that information from? How can I prepare myself mentally for selection?
Part 1 a – Information gathering
- Official information
- Inside information
- Challenges you will most likely encounter during selection
Meeting „The Standard“ – an overview
Who is selection trying to select and who is going to be filtered out?
- Someone who adds value to the team
- Character that will smoothly integrate into an existing team
- Being teachable
- Carry your own weight
- Physically
- Mentally
You are not expected to show up and be able to do everything that a regular team member does. You will learn the skills and improve your fitness once you are in the team. However, in order to be able to learn those skills and reach the necessary fitness level in the available time frame, you need to show up with a certain fitness level and the ability to pick up new information at an acceptable speed. The most critical part however is that you will not quit under any circumstances, whether you are just feeling like crap or you are actually injured. Its almost guaranteed that you will go through those times during operations and at that point, no one wants to find out that you are a quitter and require extra resources from the team. Especially if the team still has a mission to accomplish.
